Pacific countries — Niu Vaka II Strategy

With funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, we have partnered with International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) to support the implementation of IPPF’s regional strategy, Niu Vaka II.
The Niu Vaka II Strategy (2023–2028) was created by Pacific organisations – for Pacific organisations – to come together and break through the barriers that limit sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa works with Pacific IPPF Member Associations in nine Pacific countries including Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

The Sub Regional Office of the Pacific works within the East and South East Asia and Oceania office and provides support specific to Member Associations in the Pacific as they face unique challenges in advancing sexual and reproductive health access and rights.

Niu Vaka II Strategy Project Activities

The partnership between IPPF and Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa supports the following pillars of the Niu Vaka II Strategy:

Pillar 4: Nurture the Federation
Project activities to date have included:
Providing online regional training workshops to organisations across the Pacific on quality-of-care principles, supporting improvements to the delivery of quality, inclusive gender and rights-based sexual and reproductive health services
Delivering three in-person advocacy workshops that enable MAs to share learnings across organisations and countries surrounding particular topics. The workshops have focused on:
Developing organisation-level advocacy plans
Applying for additional grant funding to widen advocacy impact
Furthering national and regonal strategies on abortion access
Working at an individual level with each organisation to ensure cohesive advocacy effort throughout services provided

Kiribati — Healthy Families
The Healthy Families project aims to reduce STIs, and unintended pregnancies on certain islands of Kiribati.
Vanuatu — Planem Gud Famili Blong Yumi
The Planem Gud Famili Blong Yumi project aims to reduce the rates of unintended pregnancy, and STIs among Ni-Vanuatu.
Tonga – Amanaki Lelei project
The Amanaki Lelei project aims to improve sexual and reproductive health (SRH), reduce unintended pregnancies and reduce sexually transmitted infections among key sub-populations in Tonga.
