Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa is celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2024 through initiatives across its clinic network – and online.
The Te Wiki o te Reo Māori theme for this year is ‘Ake ake ake — a Forever Language,’ which represents the resilience, adaptability, and endurance of te reo Māori and reflects the commitment New Zealanders have to embracing and learning te reo. At Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa, we want to make sure that te reo is seen and heard at our clinics and offices, and through our online presence, not only this week, but every week. Equity, access and choice remain the philosophical pou of our service – promoting and sharing te reo Māori is a way of embracing new tohu/signs that signal to people that we are here to help.
In clinics
Our clinics will display posters and stickers celebrating te reo Māori, complete with words for common kupu (words and phrases). Some clinics will also be playing Māori artists and waiata reo Māori in their waiting rooms.
On the website
Our website will feature special blog posts written by kaimahi (staff) about how they incorporate te reo Māori and te ao Māori into their mahi:
Some key webpages have also been translated into te reo Māori:
On social media
Te reo Māori has taken over our social media! Look out for our posts in te reo Māori this week on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn, and watch out for a giveaway.
In National Office
The team will be singing waiata, sharing kai, and mihimihi/pēpeha and encouraging colleagues to do the same. Virtual and physical spaces will also be updated to celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
