Course description
This is the first of three Long Acting Reversible Contraception training courses.
There is a timeframe on this course. Learners must commence the online study within 30 days of enrolment.
Course content is aligned with the New Zealand Aotearoa's guidance on contraception and covers:
- Informed choice and health literacy
- Cultural considerations and equity
- Assessment of young people
- Clinical assessment and suitability
- Counselling for contraceptive options, efficacy and choice
- Contraceptive options and methods currently available in New Zealand Aotearoa

Practical training information:
While the National Contraception Training Service (NCTS) LARC Practical Training and Assessment is no longer available, Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa is in the process of establishing a fee-paying LARC training programme. If you are a registered health professional interested in completing our fee-paying LARC practical training, please email [email protected] to be added to the waitlist.
*Note that the exact structure and cost of this programme is yet to be confirmed.

Prerequisites
To be eligible for this training course, you must:
- Hold a current registration with the NZ Medical Council, NZ Nursing Council or NZ Midwifery Council
NOTE: Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa training courses are delivered from our Learning Management System which is accessed via the Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa website. This online training is browser based and will work on most standard browsers: Chrome, Edge, Firefox (Internet Explorer is no longer supported).
